Bandaged Rainbow

Oil on Canvas, 20 x 28 ins (51 x 76 cms.) 1983

This painting needs very little by way of explanation. The rainbow, the symbol of hope, dull rain transformed into a brilliant arc of colour. The bandages, healing, staunching the flow of blood from a wound, the protective attention of medicine. Here the wounds are psychic and the bandages are used to staunch the flow of thought, destructive or otherwise. Medication can only provide a degree of relief and so the rainbow is tied up and restricted.
